It’s also important to know what hands beat what since many times you will have e a draw to a hand that could win. If you don’t know what this hand rank is or what it beats, you will never make any money playing poker.
Most forms of poker you play, these hand rankings will apply. There are a few exceptions to this rule though. Games such as Razz, Hi-Lo or unique games like Badugi will not apply. But, all the common games like HoldEm and Stud will use this hand ranking rule.
Without further ado, here are the hand rankings in order from worse to best.
High Card – A High Card is when you have nothing at all and can only use the highest ranking card in your hand. If you have an Ace, this would be the highest card and what you would use to determine if you win or lose the hand.

Pair – A pair, or one pair, is two matching cards. If you have 2 Aces or 2 Kings, this would be a pair.

Two Pair – Two pair is when you have 2 matching cards of 2 different kind. If you have 2 Aces and 2 Queens, you would have 2 pair.

3 of a Kind – If you have 3 of the same card, you would have 3 of a kind. Three Aces would be 3 of a kind.

Straight – A straight is when you 5 cards in order. 5-6-7-8-9 would be a straight. The suit does not matter, as long as they are in order and have 5 cards, it qualifies as a straight.

Flush – A flush is when you have 5 cards of the same suit. If you had 5 cards that were all hearts, this would be a flush.

Full House – When you have 3 of one card and 2 of another is a full house. 3 Aces and 2 Tens would make a full house.

4 of a kind – When you have all 4 of the same card this is 4 of kind. 4 Aces would be 4 of a kind.

Straight flush – A straight flush is 5 cards in a row all of the same suit. If you had; 7-8-9-10-Jack, that were all hearts, this would be a straight flush.

Royal straight flush – A royal straight flush is the same as a straight flush except it is the highest possible straight of all the same suit. 10-Jack-Queen-King-Ace of all the same suit is a royal straight flush.

In games such as HoldEm Poker, where you can use the cards in the middle, you can actually use them to make your best hand. If the board holds a pair and you have nothing else, you can use that pair as your best hand. This is called playing the board.
In games like Omaha where you are dealt 4 cards, you must use 2 of the 4 cards and 3 on the board.
That’s all the hand rankings in order form worse to first. The lower the hand rank, the easier it is to get statically speaking. It’s very common to win with 1 or 2 pair in HoldEm games.

A straight from a ten to an ace with all five cards of the same suit. According to Poker hand rules, this is one of the elite suits. This is one of the rarest and greatest Poker hand rankings.
Any four cards of the same rank and one side card called kicker. If two players share the same Four of a Kind (on the board), the bigger fifth card (the Kicker) decides who wins the pot.
Any five cards of the same suit (not consecutive). The highest card of the five determines the rank of the flush. Our example shows an Ace-high flush, which is the highest possible.
Any three cards of the same rank. Our example shows three-of-a-kind Aces, with a King and a Queen as side cards – the best possible three of a kind.
Any two cards of the same rank. Our example shows the best possible one-pair hand.
This Poker hand can be any straight, with all five cards of the same suit. The Royal flush is the best possible straight flush where the five cards are the ace, king, queen, jack and ten of a suit.
Any three cards of the same Poker hand rank together with any two cards of the same rank. Our example here, shows Aces full of Kings and it is a bigger full house than Kings full of Aces.
A Poker hand ranking with any five consecutive cards of different suits. Aces can count as either a high or a low card. Our example shows a five-high straight, which is the lowest possible straight.
Any two cards of the same rank together with another two cards of the same rank. Our example shows the best possible two-pair, Aces and Kings. The highest pair of the two determines the rank of the two-pair.
Any hand not in the above-mentioned hands. Our example shows the best possible high-card Poker hand.
